What an incredible day for Ongar! Back in November, Porterhouse • WBK made history by hosting the very first Ongar Open Tournament—an event that brought together the best of our community’s spirit, a bit of friendly rivalry, and a whole lot of generosity.

Fundraising with a Purpose

Originally set up to raise funds for the Ongar Christmas Lights, the event quickly grew into something even bigger. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of Kelly Stone and Catherine Honeywell, the fundraising target was absolutely smashed. With the support of Gam Construction & Maintenance, who gave the fundraising a huge boost with a £500 donation, we’re thrilled to share that the money raised will now benefit not just one, but two incredible charities: St Clare Hospice and Havens Hospices. 💙

A Day to Remember

From the moment players arrived early on a Sunday morning, the day was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and some seriously impressive foot golf action. Every participant, from seasoned golfers and footballers to complete beginners, brought their best game and plenty of good humour.

After the tournament, everyone gathered at Porterhouse for more games and fundraising fun. Special thanks go to Vinnie Humphries for his stellar organisation and to Awoo Ongar for running the ever-popular “guess the sweets in the jar” game, proving that every little contribution makes a big difference.

Celebrating the Winners

A huge congratulations to Richard, who took home the very special Trophy crafted by Kevin Williams. Dion claimed the runner-up spot and walked away with his dream prize — a signed football! For the team prize, Sunday Lunch for 4 at The Stag Ongar was donated and won by Dion, Rodney, Shaun, and Fred.

Thank You, Ongar!

Events like this are a testament to what makes Ongar truly special: our community spirit, our generosity, and our commitment to supporting great causes. Here’s to more unforgettable days, more laughter, and more opportunities to make a difference together.
