Looking for a new way to get active, meet people and perhaps discover a sport you never knew you’d love?
Right here in Ongar, Ongar Squash & Racketball Club is proving that you don’t need to travel far to find fantastic facilities, competitive sport and, most importantly, a genuinely friendly club atmosphere.
Based in Love Lane, Chipping Ongar, the club welcomes complete beginners, returning players and experienced competitors alike. Whether you want a sociable game once a week, a new fitness challenge or the chance to compete, there’s a place for you on court.
More Than Just a Squash Club
Ongar Squash & Racketball Club describes itself as a close-knit club brought together by a love of the game – and that community feel is a big part of what makes it special.
The club has two squash courts with a viewing balcony, providing a great local facility for both squash and racketball. Courts are available to members for regular games, while organised club nights make it easy to turn up, get involved and meet other players.
And if you’ve never picked up a racket before? Don’t let that stop you.
New players are actively encouraged to come along and give it a go.
Two Brilliant Social Club Nights Every Week
One of the easiest ways to get involved is through the club’s weekly social evenings.
Racketball Club Night – Mondays, 7.20pm–9pm
Racketball is great fun, sociable and easy to get into. The club welcomes new and existing players every Monday evening, giving you the opportunity to play different people and enjoy the sport without needing to arrange your own opponent.
Squash Club Night – Wednesdays, 7.20pm–9pm
Wednesday evenings are all about squash. Again, all levels are welcome, making it a brilliant starting point if you’re new to the sport or looking to get back on court after some time away.
Club nights are currently listed at £3 per person, and the club even invites new players to come along and try their first session for free.
Want Something a Little More Competitive?
There’s plenty for competitive players too.
Ongar runs internal leagues throughout the year, giving members the opportunity to play regular matches against people of a similar standard. League rounds generally run for six weeks, with promotion and relegation helping players continually find competitive matches at the right level.
The club also holds annual competitions including its Club Championship and Handicap Cup, with players of different standards encouraged to get involved.
And for those who enjoy supporting local sport as much as playing it, Ongar also competes in the Essex squash leagues, with home matches providing the perfect opportunity to come down, watch some fantastic squash and support the team.
A Proper Local Club
What really stands out about Ongar Squash & Racketball Club is that it feels exactly like a local sports club should.
It’s welcoming.
It’s social.
There’s room for beginners and experienced players.
You can play purely for fun or challenge yourself competitively.
And it’s right here in Ongar.
So if you’ve been thinking about trying something new, getting fitter, returning to squash or simply meeting more local people, this could be your sign to pick up a racket.
You may arrive looking for a game – and end up finding a whole new community.
